What are Orthotics?
Orthotics are insoles that fit into a person’s shoes, which serve to correct biomechanical
imbalances that are occurring within the foot. Their function is similar to dental
appliances in the way that they correct and support misalignment, which may be creating
pain and discomfort for the patient.
How do they work?
The Orthotics serve to create a support system for the foot that ensures that proper
balance and stability is maintained through the body. The corrections that are made
to the foot help to ensure that pain in your joints and bones is minimized, and
may even result in the prevention of surgery down the road.
Who is a candidate?
You may be a good candidate if you suffer from foot pain, hammer toes, heel pain
(including plantar faciitis), knee pain, leg pain, recurrent sprains and strains
and hip and lower back pain.
Do I have to change all of my shoes and footwear
in order to accommodate the Orthotics?
The answer is no. We provide Orthotics that are practical and versatile for our
patients, and offer a number of different styles that are appropriate for work,
sports, high heels or everyday use.
Do you have footwear as well?
We sure do. We have a range of footwear available in updated and fashionable styles
for your enjoyment. In addition to everyday wear, we have a number of specialty
shoes including golf shoes, hiking boots, and summer sandals.
Will my health insurance cover Orthotic therapy?
Unfortunately Alberta Health Care does not provide coverage for Orthotics, however,
many private health care plans do. Check your benefit plan to determine what you
are covered for, or call our office if you have questions.
