TRADITONAL MASSAGE
What is massage?
Massage is the manipulation of soft tissues of the body performed with knowledge
of anatomy, physiology and pathology. A massage usually begins with a light steady
touch, followed by broad, flowing strokes to begin calming your nervous system and
to release tension in your superficial muscles. Gradually, as your body becomes
ready, your massage therapist works more deeply to relax specific areas.

What do I wear?
For a full body massage, you may choose to undress completely or you may choose
to wear underwear. You are covered at all times with a sheet and/or towels, except
for the area of the body being worked on.
What occurs during the initial appointment?
It is beneficial to arrive at least 5-10 minutes before your first appointment,
as you will be asked to complete a form relating to your general health history.
This will inform the Massage therapist if there are any conditions you may have
for which massage is not appropriate. You will also be required to sign a waiver
form.
The massage environment includes . . .
Your massage will take place on a table especially designed for stability and
comfort. The room will be warm and quiet, often with soft music to set a relaxing
mood. Your massage therapist will use a light oil or lotion, which is good for your
skin and absorbs well.
Will there be any “pain” or “discomfort”?
To ensure that you receive an effective and satisfying massage, communication
between you and your massage therapist is essential. Each individual has a different
level of comfort with regards to pressure. Please inform your therapist if you feel
there is too much pressure or not enough.
Following your massage you may experience some discomfort for 1-2 days. This
is due to muscles being manipulated that have been tight or overused for an extended
period of time. The discomfort you feel will not return with regular massage.
THAI MASSAGE
What is Thai Massage?
Thai massage is a form of body work that has gained wide
popularity in the West. A complete Thai massage incorporates a traditional combination
of point pressure, energy meridian work, and yoga-like stretching for an invigorating
and balancing experience. Clients are raving about Thai massage, its great stress
relief and the way it eliminates tension helping them to feel completely relaxed.
It’s unique style and graceful movements bring well-being to both the client and
practitioner.
Thai massage differs from other forms of massage in that
there is no oil used and that the client remains comfortably clothed throughout
the massage.
Thai massage blends point pressure and stretching, benefiting those who find themselves
stiff, sore, and tired from over-exertion in work or sports, arthritis and other
debilitating diseases. Thai massage enhances strength and flexibility, relaxes sore
or tense muscles, and can help to recapture lost range of motion. By encouraging
lymphatic function, this traditional massage can also detoxify the body, heighten
the immune system, and prevent disease and/or injury by promoting flexibility.
PREGNANCY / PRENATAL MASSAGE
How can massage help in pregnancy?
Massage can aid in the prevention of neck, shoulder,
hip and back pain through improved circulation and relaxed muscles, which are consistently
stressed and overused. Muscles that are repeatedly overworked and strained by changes
in the body during pregnancy become tight and do not receive proper blood, nutrients
and oxygen that are essential for proper healing and health maintenance.
Massage
helps to release these muscles and allows the muscles to perform optimally. Massage
during pregnancy can be performed at any time, however at certain stages a different
approach may be used and certain techniques may be avoided and/or altered.
What are the benefits of prenatal massage?
- Stress reduction
- A decrease in muscle/joint discomfort
- Increase in circulation
- Increase in mind/body awareness
- Headache/sinus congestion
relief
- Lessened sciatic pain
- Emotional nurturing support
- Preparing the muscles used
during childbirth
